NGSG’s SMART system utilizes state of the art technology to automatically minimize downtime and maximize flow, while at the same time, accommodating the widest of operating ranges. Our SMART packages accommodate significant flow and pressure situations like complete flow shut-ins, discharge pipeline pressure swings, intermittent supply or take away volumes, typical weather swings etc. without shutting down. In addition, our cloud-based systems give you easy access to your data and information how and when you need it.

NGSG’s eComp system eliminates gas emissions from end devices while making the package more reliable. The eComp system also captures rod packing leaks.

Design

Our cost-conscious design approach has the customer’s needs in mind. We strive to optimize the total cost of service with our offerings as we quantify the cost/benefit for each design.

Standard industry packages are typically designed with a single focus on purchase cost. We have designed with a total cost of service mindset, and as a result we have features that are unique and cost effective.

We understand runtime (the total time running) is more important to the customer than mechanical availability (runtime which excludes changes in process and weather conditions). Because we design our package systems to operate through the widest range of operating conditions, each package will provide significantly more production while significantly reducing manpower needs associated with restarting and readjusting compressors or the surrounding processes.

A timeline of game-changing innovation
2011 - 2014

Became aware of excessive downtime and associated revenue loss associated with:

Changing weather which caused temperature shutdowns despite using industry best practices such as: typical gas cooler louver control, electric motor cooler fans, hot gas bypasses and increased attendance protocols.

Excessive pressure related shutdowns from assumed rod loads, engine loads that are typically built into the compressor shutdown logic that would shut down the units for avoidable reasons The intermittent nature of the gas supply and takeaway and how it causes compressor shutdowns despite using industry best practices such as speed control, pocket control, and typical recycle valves.

Difficulty in determining compressor utilization with myriad of ways to connect to and retrieve data and the excessive time spent pouring through data to determine simple things such as runtime, top root causes etc.

Sat through WAY too many downtime meetings with many shutdowns and no clear solutions from the industry.

2014

Tried using station recycle valves, speed control etc. Marginal success but also created new problems

2015

Intense focus on the problems and evaluation of different methodologies. Came up with the concept we have today. Hard sell to Operations initially but after a few months became a “must have” from Operations. Utilized only on larger machines at medium size operator operating in parallel serving several wells.

2016 - 2019

Quantified and validated the improved operational advantages and savings across the company. Realized the value even for the small 200 Hp units (sometimes especially needed due to their application to one well). Fully integrated engine data into the package control system.

2019 - 2022

Refined programs and hardware for ease of use and standardized PID setpoints. Focused on and mastered dewpoint control between stages and after last stage of compression so as to avoid dehydration system contamination. Added engine combustion monitoring and shutdown avoidance logic.

Screw Compressors

Screw Compressor System, Inc. engineered products (SCS) was founded in 1997 and is operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Natural Gas Services Group, Inc. (NGSG). SCS designs and manufactures highly engineered rotary and reciprocating compressors packages up to approximately 1500 horsepower for sale throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Combined with innovative designs, product advancements and exclusive product affiliations, SCS is a pioneer in natural gas rotary screw and reciprocating compressor design and manufacturing. SCS offers cutting-edge design, state-of-the-art equipment, package flexibility, reliable performance, engineering expertise, and cost-effective package options.

Unique CIP Reciprocating Compressor Product

NGSG has developed the Cylinders in Plane (CiP) reciprocating compressor product line in 2000 to target higher pressure applications in the small horsepower market. The original product line started out as a single 2-throw 250 Hp frame but now includes a 4-throw 400 Hp frame.

NGSG designs, manufactures and assembles this unique compressor product line for OEM distribution to compressor manufacturers and distributors throughout North America and abroad. CiP compressors reduce vibration through its balance-opposed configuration with a bellmouth input driver connection to ensure absolute alignment. The CiP also allows for auxiliary power take off connections to drive other accessories. Finally, the CiP allows the compressor packages to be smaller than typical industry standard packages which saves on shipping costs. Overall the design reduces vibration and overall cost while increasing long-term reliability.

For the larger applications, NGSG uses the Ariel product line.

    History of NGSG

    Natural Gas Services Group, Inc. (NGSG) was incorporated in 1998 and initially operated as a holding company of Flare King, Hi-Tech Compression, NGE Leasing, Inc., and CNG Engines Company. In 2000, Flare King and Hi-Tech merged to form Rotary Gas Systems, Inc. (RGS) to focus on rotary screw compressor and flare system rental and sales. CNG was sold to an independent buyer.
